Follow up to the Irwin story, Cousteau, who was assisting Irwin at the time of his death, will keep working on Ocean's Deadliest film.

This should be a fitting tribute to a Steve, as long as it doesn't turn into another "Jaws", and lead to the destruction of a creature based on a freak accident. This is a concern that Peter West, one of Irwin's crew, has also raised.

I swim with stingrays every dive, they are peaceful creatures who extremely scared of divers and creatures bigger than they are.

Let's hope for best and also hope they don't include ...

Karen Wilshaw has posted one of the most fabulous stories ever on DivePhotoGuide. Karen lives on Cocos Island -- about 560 miles south-west of Christmas Island, its closest neighbor -- and works for Cocos Dive. Four years ago, Karen learned that a dugong had moved in to the area, and although this news was pretty much unbelievable (the nearest known dugong habitat is in Australia, 1700 miles away!), she was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was true. Amusingly, Kat, the dugong, enjoys being in the presence of divers, and he even seems to engage in play with them. Karen's ...

Recently, Cedric Verdier had one long, bad, scary day. Last month, Cedric and two Chinese divers went for a dive in Thailand. Although there's a little wind creating a light chop, the conditions are not out-of-the-ordinary. After a 20-minute bottom time, Cedric and the other divers ascend. When they finally surface, the boat that brought them is nowhere to be found, the current is strong, and the chop has increased. Spotting a nearby island, the trio decides to split, letting Cedric swim for shore to seek help. Three hours later, he's still swimming, and of course, his friends are not ...

Based in Singapore, Tony Wu is an amazing photographer working primarily in SE Asia. In January 2007, Wu and fellow-photographer Takaji Ochi will be heading to Western Australia to snorkel among the area's sea lions. If the idea doesn't immediately appeal to you, then consider Wu's description of snorkeling with the pinnipeds: "Imagine being surrounded by playful, mischievous puppies zipping acrobatically by you, sneaking up behind you to play tag, nipping at your limbs, and just generally having lots of fun." Fun!

Unlike some dive trips, this one is going to be decidedly comfortable. Staying at the New Esplanade in Perth, ...

Granted, the colors are a little washed-out, but this 43-second clip still shows the amazing ability of an octopus to blend with the surroundings. The videographers -- Debbie and Shale -- filmed this creature's near-instant changes while diving on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand. Really cool! It makes you wonder how many times you've seen an octopus but had no idea you were actually looking at ...

What Is Panama Like?

I am planning a trip to Panama. Not sure why. I don't know much about the country but I have a free Continental voucher to use up and they fly there directly from New York. That's a good ...

Travel

As if Sipadan didn't have enough to worry about right now, Malaysia's local news service is reporting that an increasing number of divers are traveling to Pulau Sipadan illegally. The permitted number of divers per day is 120, but dive operators have actively ignored that law. In January, the average ...
