Originally, I thought this was kinda kooky, but the more time I spent at the booth this afternoon, the more ingenious -- yet ridiculously simple -- Life-Safer's Personal Retriever is.
Essentially an improvement on the old familiar life ring, the Personal Retriever has undergone 9.5+ years of testing to finally become Coast Guard-approved.The Life Safer Personal Retriever is a state-of-the-art, throw-able Personal Flotation Device. Shaped like a frisbee, and looking like a glued-together bunch of styrofoam, the Personal Retriever was named one of the 5 Most Innovative Products of 2004 by CONNECT, UC San Diego's program in technology and entrepreneurship. Made of Petroleum resistant "plasti-coat," the Retriever is deployable within 10 seconds. Just as important, it's RE-deployable within 45 seconds, meaning if your aim is no good, you can quickly recover and try again.
Wound with 100 feet of nylon line, the Personal Retriever can be deployed in wind, surf, and rain.
The Personal retriever comes in either yellow and orange and retails for $139.
If these pictures leave you a little cold or confused, check out the Personal Retrievers in action in some videos. Even if you only watch one, I think you'll immediately agree that they're vastly superior to old-school life buoys. Is YOUR dive boat outfitted with a Life Safer Personal Retriever?
